[Exclusive Interview] A captivating evening with that awesome duo, DJ Bruce and DJ Eisa!
You’ve all seen and heard DJ Bruce’ work on Kuwait Music … recently however, he has teamed up with DJ Eisa, a super talented DJ and the collaborations are turning out to be pretty damn exciting. Find out about their philosophy on music, their passions and new sets in this up close and personal interview.
Edited excerpt from the interview:
KM: What are you currently working on? What can Kuwait expect ?
DJ Eisa:We are currently trying to get our heads around the awesome new RMX-1000 remix station, an effects based unit lets you overwrite the default set-up with one of your own. We plan on integrating this into our stations and gigs to create innovative new sounds and mixes.
DJ Bruce: Yes, I second that- We will be having a lot more gigs coming up in the next couple of months, so make sure to check the Facebook page to keep updated.
KM: What kinds of genres are you playing these days- where are you headed?
DJ Bruce: We want to dig deeper into the ‘house’ scene and music, all of its variants and sub-genres. Generally speaking, Kuwait’s mainstream is still largely filled with hip hop and that too the crappy type. We need to get more of that tech and progressive house into the mainstream channels. Our next podcast will be new genres of house, old school deep house, and new disco.
KM: How would you rate the House scene in Kuwait?
DJ Eisa: Its not good. Nobody seems to be carrying the responsibility of taking it further and so it wont go anywhere unless we take it seriously. To add to that, there is no substantial support from the media (TV, newspapers, event management companies etc.)
KM: We’ve noticed a trend of fewer parties now, and lesser dance events as compared to the party scene between 2004- 2008. Why do you think this is the case?
DJ Bruce: The rules have gotten stricter and officials are cracking down on parties everywhere, even perfectly legal and legitimate ones. The message out there is that if you want to dance, this is not the place for it. It would be nice if Kuwait reached a stage where we could simply have an open cafe or bistro with a DJ playing house music for people to enjoy on a regular basis.
KM: Who have been your major influences as you grew up with your music?
DJ Eisa: DJ Chucky is one hell of a DJ. I have personally been influenced by him alot and its all in the bouncy beats. Progressive Dirty Dutch, Sydney Samson as well but as a whole I get my influence from a lot of music genres.
KM: Having organized some of the hippest ‘House’ music parties in the country, what do you think of the overall standards of sound in event management in Kuwait?
DJ Bruce: There is great equipment available here. I have come across some great sound and lights companies such as Coaxial who have put up thoroughly professional setups in the past, especially “The Embassy of Sound”.
KM: So what advice would you give to event managers planning similar events in Kuwait?
DJ Bruce: Target. Target. Target. Get in touch with the right people, get your licenses in order, make sure lights and sound are appropriate for the location you are playing at, and find a fine balance in your ticket fee structure. Remember , it needs to be priced finely between covering costs and attracting people to come. It needs to be all inclusive.
KM: How big is your music collection right now?
DJ Bruce: After being in the business for over 11 years, 6 CD pouches of 250 cd’s each and a 3TB hard disk.

Interview … contd.
KM: When did you start DJ-ing and what was the first track you ever played?
DJ Bruce: It literally was 11 years ago when I did my first mix of U2′s ‘Beautiful Day’ . I played it on my home music system with 2 disc-mans!
DJ Eisa:I started around 4 years ago when I switched to Virtual DJ to learn an found out was the easiest way to get yourself off the ground.
KM: If there was that one dream gig you could do anywhere in the world, where would it be?
DJ Eisa: ‘Tomorrow Land” a huge music festival held throughout Europe.
DJ Bruce: Ibiza. Aint nothin like it in the whole world
