5 ways to free up your time to do songwriting
Feb 2012 22

Living in a country like kuwait, most of your time is either spent on studying , working or eating. Making time to play music and just write a good original is hard to come by. Here are a few ways that may help you bring down the obstacles!

1 ) Do a disconnect

Turn off your phone , PC, TV and everything electronic. Get a sheet of paper, your guitar, Piano or whatever else it is that you use to write, and zone out.

2) Set a Timer:

Every day, set a timer for about 15 minutes. Within that time, work on a particularly repititious  task related to your instrument or music theory.

3) Play your song at the gym or at work

Constantly listen to parts of your recorded piece. Always helps reminding your self how you got inspired , where your mistakes are and how you can correct them. This is a direct result of listening to the music outside of the songwriting environment.

4) Zone your time in early

Set your alarm around 15-20 earlier than usual and go play an instrument with the song you are trying to write. Although horribly painful, this practice can become addictive.

5) Devise a Personal rewards system.

10 points for a new chord formation you just came up with. 20 points for a new riff. 50 points for an idea for a song title! Maintining such a points system will keep you motivated and also allow you to track progress of your creativity.

Meaning, whether you are about to sleep, at the bathroom, or doing odd stuff and an idea hits, get to work or else it will go away.
