This is a great article I found on musicradar.com on budget mics that would suit a budget recording studio capabilities as well, otherwise you’ll end up spending a fortune without fully benefiting from your investment due to the ‘home recording’ limitations.
So here we go:
1- AKG D 5: £90 – a good choice if you want something that’s equally at home on the stage as it is in the studio.
2- Røde M3: £114 – can run off phantom power or a 9V battery, making it highly portable and a strong choice as a versatile first mic.
3- Shure SM58: £127 – near-indestructible construction, internal pop filter and resistance to feedback. Also a good beginners’ mic for home recordists, especially male rock singers.
4- Røde NT1-A: £197 – it’s renowned for its quietness, which translates to a signal-to-noise ratio of 88dB.
5- MXL V69 ME: £279 – requires very little EQ to make a vocal sit just right in the mix.
