Acoustica lets its wings fly at the Al Maidan Cultural center
When we walked into the Al Maidan Cultural center , there was a calm sense of anticipation and a quiet buzz around the audience. By the time the show was done, there was not a single person in the crowd not generous with their applause. Acoustica the band, had arrived.
A brilliant display of versatility
Acoustica had a gig cancelled before this one, so a chance to play to a largely artsy audience was a great break and a welcome one. The stage was set and the instruments were highlighted against a lovely backdrop that can only be seen at the Maidan Cultural center.
Richard Bushman, founder of the Ahmadi Music Group introduced the show eloquently and also gave us a glimpse of what’s to come next week.
The band started off with Natalie Imbrulglia’s “Torn”, and what a great cover it was. Serena’s dazzling voice was apparent from the offset and the band’s harmony and chemistry are undeniable. What I loved most about the band is that everyone had a specific highlight. Taahira, known for her incredible stage presence and beautiful voice as well wooed the audience on a few tracks including Seal’s “Crazy” which I personally enjoyed because I just love Seal!
Then Adriana’s graceful yet distinct cover of Sade’s “Smooth Operator” put the audience in a soulful mood. I thought the diversity of transitions from pop to jazz to rock provided the audience with well needed flavour. And with wonderfully distinguished performances from Dejan, Ellie , Sofia and the drummer (Sorry , dont know his name!) . With the They ended with the classic “California Dreaming” by the Mamas and the Papas to massive applause. I wouldn’t hesitate for one second if I had the chance to watch Acoustica perform again.

great fearure guys , and really well done by acoustica !
This is pumping me up into doing something … Dunno what yet, but I’m gonna figure out. Cheers for Acoustica!
I agree with Kathryn… some really strong talent here and hope for big successes in the future .
its really good to see the Dar supporting and encouraging such events and performances. Keep it up guys you all are awesome!
love the performances! keep it up peeps
lovely performence guys… it is really nice to see such concerts in kuwait. good luck
Thanks for the nice comments guys. Yeah, I was amazed that DAI gave us so much support and took a chance on us, considering that this was our FIRST PUBLIC appearance! Especially in the current climate, where gigs are being cancelled, raided and licenses are not being issued, their support really meant a lot to us. It was also extremely gratifying to see the place fully packed, with (not much) standing room only, and audience support and reaction were truly inspiring.
Acoustica is an experiment and there was no way of knowing what kind of reaction we would get, so going out on that stage was a bit…scary. Now it feels even better that we got literally hundreds of awesome comments and some really good feedback!
On the disappointment side, very few fellow musicians showed up (notable exceptions – Lester, Kareem, Adel “D”, Khaled Warba), even those that myself and/or rest of Acoustica actively supported in the past…
Hey I showed up ! And I’m a musician , lol – just kidding i know what you mean
I know exactly how you feel dejan – so many musicians we ( kuwait music ) have supported, promoted , spent sweat and hard work on , over the last year and a half and very few (a handful ) have actually actively participated and helped us grow . It’s ironic that the site was made for musicians but a bulk of our traffic comes from non playing music enthusiasts in Kuwait instead . We talk about the audiences being dead – I say Kuwaits musicians need to stop being lazy , self centered and start collaborating .
Yeah, about the musicians not showing up – I do find that to be a disappointment. I know a few that I asked said they had some prior commitments…though my friend Hadeel who came with me sings in this rock cover band I play with in Lebanon, so that’s another musician too! I definitely get you though. Hopefully next time!
Yeah… it may just be circumstances Kareem, but without getting too political- sometimes you just get a feeling when youre not supported by certain corners- and when youre right, youre right!
No, it’s very true, I agree.
That’s right Caesar. At least this time, audience was amazing! Keep in mind, this was our very first public performance. These people had no idea what kind of a band we are, if we are any good or not etc – and yet some 350 of them showed up!
PS – percussionist’s name is David Laidlaw (you might remember him from the Blend Festival).
Woulda came but then again, KUNA is a pain in da *beep* next time inshallah.
Im new in Kuwait and this was the first music event i have attended here and have to say, what a great start!!! Acoustica, it would be nice if you can keep us updated about future gigs Id be very happy to attend!

Thank you all for your love and support, we were very lucky to have such an audience, true inspiration … As Jimi Hendrix said:
“Music is so much fun. That’s what it’s all about filling up the chest cavities and empty kneecaps and elbows.” This is how we felt playing at DAI!
Peace, Love & Rock ‘n’ Roll !!!
I was at the studio recording; heard it was good! Keep it up guys!
