When we walked into the Al Maidan Cultural center , there was a calm sense of anticipation and a quiet buzz around the audience. By the time the show was done, there was not a single person in the crowd not generous with their applause. Acoustica the band, had arrived.
Alison Shan Price, the artistic director of the play “Akhnaton” contacted us a few weeks ago and told us about the event that would be coming up. At the time, we weren’t quite sure what to expect but after attending the official press conference, we instantly knew this was serious business. After we walked out of the show last night, we had no idea what just hit us- It was simply mind blowing. Experience Akhnaton in this Kuwait Music exclusive >>
Nawaf Al Ghareibah is a soulful character. You’ll tell from his music and you’ll surely tell from spending just 5 minutes with him, and see just how passionate he is about his art. Since this was an invite-only concert, we were sure there would be something special on display. As we walked in to the Bayt Lothan entrance, we were greeted by young, friendly and well spoken volunteers who were all carrying a wonderfully designed theme- T-shirts and bags / brochures of the concert logo, a tree with many branches and music sowing its seeds.(A brilliant concept to say the least) … Walking toward the main concert area, we were pleasantly surprised to see a completely enclosed area with high curtains and the stage and lights all set up inside of it. It looked simply amazing…
Hello there Kuwait Music readers!
I know it’s not been that long since my last post, but this time it’s not an insight into me, it’s a review of the Battle of the Bands that was held in the Don Bosco school on the 27th of April 2012!
I, along with Kuwait-Music’s own Caesar Fernandes and Filipino musician known as Rico, had the pleasure of judging the wonderful show and I have to say it was a tough one! We had to judge based on a variety of factors in their performance. Our judging was based on stage presence, sound, length of show among other things. I would have all the details for you, but they took away all of our judging sheets!
Check out this super cool performance by Ali Sleeq, Gary Ruston, Kevin Owen and David Laidlaw as they perform So What by Miles Davis for their opening number at the first ever Blend Music Festival in Kuwait by Avant-Garde Music Productions. Some tight solos! Video by TJC Films
